Goldfish Swim School: A Waterbug's Review

At the beginning of the year, we started Chloe at the new Goldfish Swim School in Williamsville. Daddy Beau is pretty serious about making sure his little girl gets lessons on water safety and building confidence (after all, he is a former D1 swimmer and taught babies to swim himself out in California!). We've been really impressed with Goldfish and haven't stopped taking Chloe since she is learning so much.

Swim Lessons (or as Beau calls it: Swim Practice)

The biggest positive for us was seeing that Goldfish Swim School focuses on safety during the toddler sessions. Chloe is in the Mini 2 group currently and the half hour lesson focuses on several important things:

• comfort with kicking legs
• back floats so little ones can relax if they find themselves needing to flip over
• getting to the side and pulling themselves up and out
• getting used to water on their face and going underwater for a brief time
• entry-level safety skills in case the child falls in to the pool unattended

• Chloe climbing out of the edge of the pool- safety first!

The second we walked in we thought how bright, happy, and cute it was! The vibe is like an island vacation with vibrant colors, a full wall of glass to see inside the pool, private changing rooms, and a fish tank filled with...you guessed it!...goldfish. The staff is very friendly and after a couple of lessons, knew Chloe by name and were tuned in to her strengths, weaknesses, and growth. They ended up suggesting moving her up in to the Mini 3 session because she has no fear of the water and can climb out so well. That was a sign to us that they are paying attention to all kids that come through their doors and care about what they're doing.There are plenty of chairs that adults and other siblings can sit at to watch their swimmers through the glass- unless of course you are a parents with a baby in the water. There is also a small amount of seating inside the heated pool space where you can watch up close to see how your little fish is doing. Lifeguards and extra instructors are always watching to make sure everyone is safe and also observe and take notes for the kids with progress reports every few weeks.An open walk-in shower area is available for all to use before and/or after lessons to rinse off and the individual private changing rooms make it so easy to get your toddler in and out of their gear. A drybar with mirrors and six hairdryers stands for making sure no kiddo leaves the place with wet hair and there are a couple machines for swimsuits to get automatically dried. Several family restrooms and a changing table are available as well. The amenities here make is SO nice and easy to prep for lessons.

Just Keep Swimming

Chloe is still in her lesson schedule and we are now on the waiting list for the Mini 3 sessions. We plan on sticking with Goldfish Swim School because of their structured age-appropriate lessons, the friendly staff and cleanliness of the facility, and the amount of time options that fit in to our busy schedules. Beau has even stopped by during Family Open Swim on his day off with Chloe to spend some time in the water together.
